What began as an ordinary phone call quickly turned into one of the most frightening moments Adam Thomas and his family have ever faced.
The former Emmerdale star has revealed that his mother, Gail, was rushed to hospital after collapsing on the floor in unbearable pain, repeatedly crying that she thought she was dying.
Speaking candidly on the At Home With The Thomas Bros podcast alongside brothers Scott and Ryan, Adam shared the emotional ordeal that left the entire family fearing the worst.
A Desperate Call for Help
Scott Thomas recalled receiving a frantic phone call from their mum that immediately sent him rushing to her home.
“She was screaming, ‘Get round here now.'”
When he arrived, Gail was lying on the floor in excruciating pain and struggling to cope.
According to Scott, she had already called an ambulance but was convinced something life-threatening was happening.
“She kept saying, ‘I think I’m dying.'”
Paramedics arrived and initially believed she was suffering from a severe stomach bug. After calming her down, she returned home hoping the worst had passed.
Unfortunately, it hadn’t.
The Pain Returned Days Later
Over the following two days, Gail tried to carry on despite continuing discomfort.
But on the third day, the pain suddenly became unbearable again.
Scott revealed that another emergency ambulance was called after his mum experienced the same agonising symptoms.
This time, hospital tests uncovered the real cause of her suffering.
Doctors diagnosed Gail with gallstones and informed her that she would need surgery to remove her gallbladder.
Thankfully, the operation was successful.
Adam Reflects on Seeing His Mum So Vulnerable
Adam admitted the experience was especially emotional because it was the first time he had truly realised his mum was getting older.
After her surgery, he collected her from hospital himself and brought her back to his home so he could help look after her while she recovered.
He confessed seeing Gail in so much pain was incredibly difficult and made him appreciate how precious family moments have become.
Despite everything she went through, both Adam and Scott praised their mum for remaining remarkably strong throughout the ordeal.
Scott described her simply as:
“An absolute soldier.”
